Description:
SS Massilia lands in New York carrying passengers some of whom have Typhus. Outbreak starts on ship and is quarantined. NY Health Department creates a Typhus Ward in lower eastside which houses those accused of having Typhus and actually have Typhus to contain outbreak. Cyrus Edson, Chief Sanitary Inspector orders all Jewish Russian passengers of Massilia to be rounded up and quarantined. 1,200 quarantined, 200 of which were Typhus victims, 49 people caught the disease, 6 of which died.
