Description:
In 1854, an outbreak of cholera around a well started the shift ideas into the germ theory when John Snow traced the disease to it.
Symptoms:
-infects people in 6 hours of contracting disease
-rice water stool
-viscous blood
-violent vomiting
-abdominal pain/cramps
-shock
Treatment:
-Oral rehydration therapy of water, sugar, and salt
-avoid unclean water
-50% fatal if untreated
-Vaccine lasts 3 years
History:
-1832 a large new york outbreak killed 35000 over the summer
-1858 The Great Stink
- 1884 Robert Koch isolated cholera
-1897 Germ theory was finally accepted
