This is important because it is one of the reasons the United States entered the war. Germans sunk the boat because they declared unrestricted submarine warfare. There were American and British citizens that died on the bought. This was a bold move that no one really agreed with. It was a British Ocean Liner so although everyone knew the risks of traveling in that area, they figured that no one would go the extent of killing innocent lives.
