Uprising of 1622:
In a sudden and unforeseen attack, hundreds of Powhatan warriors attacked English colonists and settlements in Virginia. They burned homes and plantations all over the James River. The Powhatan Uprising of March 22, 1622, which caused the lives of approximately 347 colonists to be lost, and came dangerously close to exterminating England’s best outposts in North America. This uprising had a very important role in shaping the English and Powhatan relationships for a long time.
