jan 29, 1997 - RAF SIMONS presented — SS98

Description:

Raf Simons presented his second runway show — Spring Summer 1998 at a parking garage in the neighbourhood of Bastille, Paris.

The collection was titled as Black Palms. According to Steff Yotka who wrote for Style.com during 1 June 1997, he mentioned that the models were mostly from all over Europe as Raf Simons used to released radio ads to advertise that he was on a lookout for lean looking youths. They were mostly not professional catwalk models and funnily, bearing an almost similar resemblance to Raf's own image or of his friends.

As Raf mentioned that the wardrobe of his era was " black outfits, long and skinny silhouette and in white Stan Smiths ". Those silhouettes were clearly represented on the runway. Franky Claeys, Belgian artists designed a series of graphics for this collection too. The infamous painting of the Black Palm trees that was clearly seen on the back of the first model was painted by also Belgian artists, Jos Brands.

With a staggering 60 looks, his Spring Summer 1998 collection remained as one of his longest shows and also, most diverse.
