Description:

E. Coli O157:H7. It is a type of bacteria that lives in animal and human intestines. There are other types of E. Coli, but E. Coli O157:H7 is the worst one. The agent is found in animal and human intestines due to various transmissions such as taking contaminated water and, food (beef, water, feces, milk and juice, fruits/vegetables, etc.). It is also found in abiotic environments, such as public pools. Everyone eating raw beef or drinking contaminated water, working with cattle, and having some other type of illness can put themselves at risk for getting E. Coli O157:H7. Young children and older adults are more at risk for E. coli. Drinking plenty of water and fluids, as well as, getting rest can help improve the body to heal. If it is getting worse, going to the doctor is needed. Avoid undercooked meat, such as ground beef. Also, avoid unpasteurized milk/juice, and cheeses, make sure when you are eating food or drinking fluids that they are cooked thoroughly (especially beef), having washed hands, washing your fruits and vegetables, and not swallowing water in public pools. Each year, in the US, about 100 people die of E. coli, and 265,000 are infected with it. In 1885, the bacteria was discovered by Theodore Escherich.
