dec 1, 1943 - Repeal of Chinese Exclusion Act
Description:
Repealed the discriminatory exclusion laws against the Chinese and established a quota to approximately 105 visas per year. Allow Chinese to immigrate for the first time since the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1992, but were pressured by groups, such as the CCBA and even Japanese community groups. It called for its military necessity to uphold their alliance with Chinese. Important because it paved the way to admit Filipinos and Asian-Indian immigrants since the exclusion of both these groups damaged the US relations with Philippines and India.
