Description:
In the Early 1800s, the urbanization in America caused large groups of people to live in close quarters which created a perfect breeding ground for TB
Symptoms:
-Loss of weight
-Weakness/tiredness
-Cough lasting over a 3 weeks
Treatment:
-People were subjected to plombage, pneumothorax, and bed rest without sitting up for months.
-now there are antibiotics for some cases.
-XDR tuberculoses is not curable
History:
-Alexander Flemming discovered Penicillin which could help treat TB in 1928
-1867 tenement house act for basic sanitation
-1 in 7 people throughout history have died from TB
