On the September 13 Nintendo Direct, it was teased that a new Animal Crossing game was on the way, but while that was happening, Isabelle, the mayor's assistant, appeared to receive a letter with the Smash Bros. logo on it, indicating that she would be playable. There was gameplay showcased of her, that her moveset would be similar to Villagers, but different enough to be her own unique fighter. Shortly after is was announced that a new Animal Crossing game would be coming in 2019.
