Description:
the USSR starts up the Luna program to study the effects of space and possibly hit the moon. while it succeeded in recording data relating to radiation, temperature, and pressure the Luna I missed the moon. but the USSR was able to clam another stepping stone, the first spacecraft to leave Earth's orbit. the Luna I weighed 795.87 pounds and was launched with a Sapwood SS-6.Added to timeline:
