The civil rights act banned discrimination of people based on race in public places as well as banning discrimination of race, sex, religion, etc in the workplace. The bill was proposed by Kennedy and was signed in Washington DC. One major cause of this was the civil rights movement and one major effect of this was the banning of segregation in public places.
