5. One major cause
While not exactly a cause, Kennedy's presence in Texas gave Lee Harvey Oswald the opportunity to assassinate JFK. Because he was preparing for reelection, JFK felt that winning Florida and Texas was necessary for his victory, so he planned on visiting both states.

6. One major effect
JFK's assassination helped lead to the creation of the 25th Amendment. While previous presidential deaths and injuries had made legislators start to think about a presidential succession amendment, JFK's death made support grow. The 25th Amendment was submitted to the states in 1965 and adopted in 1967.
