Description:

The Song Dynasty, which occurred between 960 and 1279, and came soon after the collapse of the Tang. The Song did not have a super strong military, but at the same time, they did not do a whole lot of additional conquering. The administration also did not trust the military leaders, so having a smaller military would reduce the risk of military conflicts. Finally, the Song dynasty was very centralized, and the introduction of new technologies (like gunpowder) made conflict different, usually quicker. (3.2)
