Wanting to end the Vietnam War and put pressure on the Soviet Union, President Nixon decided to visit the PRC in 1972 and end the quarter century of non-communication. Shocking the world, he met with Premier Zhou Enlai in Shanghai for a week to negotiate nuclear limitations and bring peace in the East.
