oct 16, 1934 - The Long March
Description:
The Long March, a year-long, 4000 mile long journey by Chinese communists, began on October 16, 1934. During the civil war between communists and the KMT, Mao Zedong emerged as an undisputed leader of the communist party. The communist party’s Red Army came to terms with their impending defeat, and the year long retreat from the front lines began. By marching at night and letting few people know a retreat was even occurring, the red army was able to incite confusion and buy extra time for those who were retreating.
