jan 1, 1054 - The Schism Between Eastern and Western Christianity Occurs

Description:

The schism between eastern and western Christianity occurred due to political differences and differences in religion. Religiously, eastern Christianity and western Christianity differed on their opinions of whether it was okay to use idols to aid in the worship of God. Those in the east frowned upon this, while those in the west encouraged it. Politically, this schism occurred, due to both the Pope of the West's and the Patriarch of the East's claims of power. Eventually, both the Pope and the Patriarch excommunicated each other. (3.2)
