Description:
Pattern Span
- Devised the Visual Patterns Test for measuring visuospatial memory
- Seems to be measuring a different quantity than the Corsi Block Tapping Test (purely visual memory vs memory for positional sequences in the Corsi test)
- subject is presented with checker- board patterns, which have been designed to be difficult to code verbally
- Half of the squares in a grid are filled in and grids increase in size from 2x2 to 5x6
- Number of filled cells = level of complexity
- The maximum level of complexity a participant can recall is taken to be the capacity of their visual working memory
