Description:
Time Based Resource Sharing
- Attention is shared between processing & maintenance
- Working memory tasks impose resource sharing
- Assumption that activation has a time-related decay after a stimulus disappears
- Performance in WM span tasks determined by attentional resources, switching mechanism & memory decay
- We don't fully understand the switching process & how best to measure this.
- Only studied verbal WM & didn't examine the difficulty of retrieval and its effect on cognitive load
