Each side dug many lines of trenches. Trenches were divided into different sections: front line trench; supply,trench and resting trench. Between the 2 opposing sides you had a "No Mans Land" which was dangerous for soldiers. Life was very difficult due to mud and cold water, lice, rats, and illness.
