dec 22, 1807 - The Embargo Act
Description:
After the British Blockade of France, and her allies America was suffering economically. The act was a non-violent resistance to Britain harming the American merchant ships, and general commerce. It imposed a complete embargo on Great Britain by closing all U.S. Ports, and placing heavy restrictions on British imports. This was in response to the British threatening american merchant ships, commerce, and sailors as the British were continually impressing American sailors from their own ships. This idea was spear headed by Thomas Jefferson.
