Description:
In November 1799, Napoleon conducted a coup which became known as the "Coup of 18 - 19 Brumaire" which hoisted the previous administration of France (the directory) in favour of the consulate. Napoleon was granted the position of the first consulate of France which effectively gave Napoleon absolute control over France military, and foreign policy. This was viewed as a very illegitimate move by the other European powers at the time.
