nov 16, 1885 - Execution of Riel

Description:

His trial began after he was placed eight weeks in Regina jail. He pleaded not guilty for a charge of treason. After the 4th day trial, he was found guilty of treason, but recommended mercy. It was now up to Prime Minister Macdonald. If he decides to punish Riel, he would lose support from Quebec, but if he did not punish Riel, then he would upset English Canada. In the end, Macdonald and his cabinet decided to hang Riel on November 16, 1885.
