jun 12, 1235 - Mali Empire (1235 C.E.-1400) and Mansa Musa (1312 C.E.-1337 C.E.)

Description:

The Mali Empire was also in Western Africa and also was heavily based on trade. They benefitted so well because they taxed almost all goods that came through, which was an easy way to gain wealth. They also gave protection, lodging, and comforts for Muslim traders, which bettered their reputation with other Islamic areas. Although they did not force Islam on the people, Islam was the force that truly did unite the people, mostly because of how similar it makes people. Mansa Musa was an Islam ruler of the Mali Empire and expanded it. He created ties with people to allow his peoples to complete the Hajj and was also very upbeat about his trade. (3.2)
