jan 20, 1869 - Rupert's Land Sold
Description:
Rupert's land was a territory owned by the Hudson Bay Company. Canada saw it as a natural extension of its new nation. On March 20, 1869, the HBC reluctantly sold the land to Canada for $1.5 million. The sale involved roughly a quarter of the continent, but it failed to take into account the existing residents of mainly Metis and Indians.
