I had no time to Hate -
Because
The Grave would hinder me -
And Life was not so
Ample I
Could finish - Enmity -

Nor had I time to Love -

Some Industry must be -
This little Toil of Love -

Be large enough for me -

This poem accepts the necessity of industry and work, yet simultaneously subverts the idea, as Dickinson limits herself to the "little Toil of Love."
