may 13, 1971 - "Halfway Road, Penang"
‒ Ghulam-Sarwar Yousuf
[Drama]
Description:
There was an abrupt decline in English-written dramas after the tragedy of May 13 due to state policies that diminished the reputation of English language (Patke & Holden, 2010). Since the event was recent to the staging of this play, acquiring a permit was proven to be difficult purely because of the setting, fearing of another outbreak of racial riots even though the play condemns it (Ramlan & Quayum, 2010). It is a story that illustrates the complications of interracial relationships in a restrictive community.
