Description:

Gregory started as a deacon in Rome and then ambassador to Constantinople. Against his wishes he was elected pope, and worked to distribute food the needy in Rome as well as the rebuilding of aqueducts and other infrastructure. He wrote prolifically and was influential in the middle ages.
