Constantine converted to Christianity after having a vision of the symbol chi-ro. After the battle of the Milvan bridge, he became emperor and issued the Edict of Milan, making Christianity legal in the empire. For good or for ill, this wedding of church and empire had a fundamental influence on the shape of Christianity for millennia.
