Description:
Beginning in 1907, the OSD embraced oralism and used it exclusively, with sign language not being used. In 1919, The Ontario Department of Education banned deaf adults from training as teachers and therefore, by 1927, there were only three teachers left at the OSD who used sign language. (Ellis, 2014, p. 376).
