jan 30, 1924 - Deaf or Hard of Hearing Classes

Description:

In 1924, day-classes were established for students who were hard of hearing or deaf. They are taught with children who where "like they were" and kept out of general public school classrooms. (Ellis & Axelrod, 2016, p.6)

The first school (built in 1922) was put into the city's public schools and had a complete oralist method to teaching. (Ellis, 2014, p. 371). This means that these students are taught by reading lips while sign language is not to be used.
