mar 9, 1963 - Gideon v Wainwright

Description:

A man was convicted of a felony and could not afford a lawyer and the judge refused to give him one, so he was sentenced without one. He appealed to the supreme court and they ruled for him since a lawyer is guaranteed. Because he didn't get one to begin with, he did not enjoy the rights given to him in the constitution.
