oct 28, 1793 - Eli Whitney invents the Cotton Gin
Description:
Eli Whitney, an inventor, started thinking about how hard it seemed for cotton farmers to harvest cotton, as cotton contained seeds that had to be picked out by hand, which made the process extremely slow and painful. Whitney, seeing the process, decided to build a machine that would easily separate the seeds from the cotton. The cotton gin helped the south, as cotton could be harvested faster. This also caused more slavery, as the plantation owners wanted to harvest more cotton, which meant more cotton fields, which needed more laborers.
