Maximilien Robespierre, the leader of the Committee of Safety, was the fuel to the Reign of Terror. Killing everyone who opposed the revolution was supposed to be killed by the guillotine publicly. Ironically, after getting taken down by the National Convention, he was killed by the guillotine.
