Three protests occurred in Melbourne which affected the games. China withdrew their appearance after Taiwan was recognized by the Olympic commision. Egypt, Lebanon, and Iraq boycotted to protest the Isreal invasion on the Sinai Penninsula. Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands boycotted to protest the Soviet Union invasion on Hungary.
