The collapse of the economy (as caused by a lack of regulation and surplus due to capitalist) left 30% of the U.S population unemployed and millions of people were struggling to survive. Roosevelt's new deal was a system of policies implemented by president Franklin D. Roosevelt to attempt to the tackle the extreme hardship the american people were facing.
