jan 5, 313 - Edict of Milan
Description:
reversed the official persecution enacted by Diocletian and gave toleration to Christians.
Later in his rule, Constantine made Christianity the official, sole religion of the Roman Empire. It is possible that, on the eve of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge (312) Constantine received a vision, which promised him victory against his rival if he accepted Christianity; however, the exact motive for Constantine’s declaration of the Edict of Milan is not fully known. The Christian Church was changed through the Edict as it received legal rights and quickly became wealthy from donations.
