feb 12, 376 - Visigoth migrations start
Description:
The migrations of Germanic tribes into the Roman Empire began in 376 when the Emperor Valens permitted a people known as the visigoths, one of the two main branches of the Goths, to enter the Balkans in order to escape an Asiatic group of nomads known as the Huns.
n 378, the Visigoths revolted against abuses by Roman rulers and were engaged against the Romans at the Battle of Adrianople; the Emperor Valens was killed during the battle. Following this battle, the Visigoths made peace with the Romans and later migrated to wealthier areas in Greece and Italy.
