jun 28, 1898 - The Curtis Act

Description:

Sponsored by Charles Curtis, a mixed-blood Kansas Indian and senator from Kansas, the Curtis Act was an amendment to the Dawes Act and the problems it caused. It ultimately resulted in the breaking up of tribal governments and communal lands in Indian Territory of the Five Civilized Tribes. With its passage, Congress took final control of affairs in Indian Territory.
