Like Columbus, Ponce De Leon originally thought he had landed on a different location. Leon was in search of a rumored fountain of youth on an island called Bimini. Instead he landed in present day Florida. Still thinking it was Bimini, he sailed back to colonize it 8 years later, accompanied by around 200 Spaniards.
