feb 12, 1912 - Qing Dynasty Ends

Description:

The Wuchang Uprising and the subsequent Xinhai Revolution overthrew the Qing Dynasty, an empire extending the last 2000 years. The decline of the Qing Dynasty in the decades leading up to its topple triggered widespread support for reform or revolution. The Opium wars resulted in the loss of Hong Kong, and the Sino-Japanese War also resulted in the loss of former Chinese territories like Taiwan and Korea. The Wuchang Uprising resulted from the organized mutiny of Qing soldiers in Wuhan and eventually gained enough momentum to turn into a revolution, the Xinhai Revolution led by Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese doctor and writer. As the first provisional president of the Republic of China, Sun overthrew the dynasty and established the Republic of China with its capital in Nanjing.
