jun 20, 1789 - The Tennis Court Oath

Description:

When members of the Third Estate realized that they were being outvoted unfairly, they split up and formed the National Assembly on June 17. When they were locked out of the meeting of all the Estates on June 20, they went to a nearby indoor tennis court and made an oath not to leave until another constitution was made. This was important because it showed that the Third Estate could also have a say in the government.
