My 17th birthday, I told my sister I was a lesbian. This was a huge thing for me, because she is my closest family member. I would even venture to say she is one of my best friends. I attached a photo from right around that time. It was quite interesting to think about how she was the only family member who knew my biggest secret. I was right on track with many other people my age, as according to Friedrichs, there are a few ideas of when young people come out, but it is usually around the age of 16 or 17 (Friedrichs, 2017).
