may 7, 1915 - Germany's U-boat sinks Great Britain's liner named Lusitania.
Description:
When this boat was sunk, it was sunk without warning. 1,198 people on that boat passed away, and 128 of those were Americans. Germany tried to defend itself saying that there were armed weapons and ammunition, thinking it would justify their actions. Although the accusation was true, Theodore Roosevelt denounced the action as "murder on the high seas".
