Great Britain began a blockade on Germany to try and stop supplies from getting to Germany, even supplies from neutral nations. President Wilson complained about the blockade, but did not take action because he feared he would lose the strong economic bonds between Great Britain. It helped America with its economy. Although Wilson did nothing about it, Germany did. They started submarine attacks on Britain's blockade. The new weapon was called a U-boat, short for Unterseeboot. They did this in order to crack the British blockade and stop crucial supplies from getting to the Allies.
