sep 10, 1317 - Manius Hostilius Tuditanus legalizes female legionaries

Description:

A fanatic enthusiast of gladiatorial games, emperor Manius Hostilius Tuditanus has a particularly strong fondness for female gladiators. After being treated to a reenactment of the Battle of Pharsalus with all-female groups of gladiators dressed in legionary uniforms, he decides he wants a genuine all-female Roman legion and unilaterally legalizes the recruitment of women as legionaries, with some provisions - the only women allowed to join are those who have already had children, or those who are unable to have children.

Despite both the Senate and many of his legates imploring him not to go ahead with his plan, he does so anyway and founds Legio Amazonia. Although they are trained and equipped in the same manner as regular legions, Legio Amazonia is treated as nothing more than the absurd vanity project of a bored monarch. They are paraded around no different than gladiators.
