dec 11, 1931 - Statute of Westminster
Description:
On December 11, 1931, a British law was passed by the Parliament of United Kingdom. The law clarified the powers of the Canadian government, it made Canada a completely self-governing nation. Under the Statute, Canada was granted the freedom and right to pass their own laws without the consent of the British Parliament. This is a significant event because despite the fact that Canada won the right to self-government in 1876 during Confederation, they didn't achieve full autonomy until the Statute was passed.
