dec 28, 2011 - My First (and only) Boyfriend!
Description:
After going to high school, I was pressured to start dating.
This came a bit from my mother, who always spoke about her great memories of always having a boyfriend. More importantly, I think it came from the movies I watched. Thinking about essentially any movie set in a high school, and there is a love interest. Or, reflecting on Disney films, nearly every princess finds her prince when she is in her teens. According to one article, Snow White is the youngest at 14, and Cinderella and Tiana are the oldest at 19 (Peitzman, 2013). Yet, even though they are so young, almost each seeks love.
My sister had a boyfriend, so I had to have one, too. I settled on Jacob, the most feminine boy I could find. We dated for 9 months, and the moment he tried to even so much as kiss me, I shut it down so fast. I just was not comfortable with him, and internally I knew it was because I was not attracted to males. However, I knew it would disappoint my extended, very religious family if they had a gay granddaughter.
