aug 26, 1991 - Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples
Description:
The date is the day it was enacted- The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples was a group formed by the Canadian government to help Aboriginals. When they issued a report, they stated that there should be legislation that recognizes Aboriginal's sovereignty, institutions of Aboriginal self-government, and initiatives to address social, educational, health, and housing needs. However, the government has not taken action to address these recommendations other than the creation of the Aboriginal Healing Foundation (AHF).
