aug 6, 1885 - Potlatch Ban - 1885
Description:
Potlatch ceremonies were a major part of the first nations culture. There was a social, cultural, and religious way of life warped up into a potlatch. The Europeans saw this as a wall that was blocking their path to assimilation. They later banned it and in result it was one of the first non-hidden, official steps in the effort to erase Native culture.
