Invented by Cyrus McCormick in 1831. A reaper was capable of cutting six acres of oats in one afternoon, the equivalent of 12 men working with scythes. This allowed a smaller number of people to physically cut the wheat stalks much faster than someone with just a sickle.Added to timeline:
